How often I sit with few of my friends and relatives and the discussion naturally turns to the situation and events in Pakistan...everyone is so concerned and deeply involved with the happenings in the country that very often people end up with teary eyes and swollen voices...
But one common factor that I have realised in all Pakistanis I speak to you is their natural pride in their own land..some say Pakistan is created by Allah and Allah will always look after this country and we hear different stories of 1965 and 1971 wars when Pakistan received assistance from unseen forces of Allah, how a non-Muslim converted to Islam after visiting Pakistan saying with all the mess in this country I have to believe that only there is some superior force who is protecting and guarding this country and so many different stories and tales of extra ordinary brilliance.
I wouldn't say that is a bad thing to do or have, but I find this really amazing that half of those individuals who are sort of hard-line PATRIOTS do not realise what Pakistan is? do we think that we are patriotic Pakistanis if we do not hear anyone saying anything bad about Pakistan, we buy green shirts and change our profile pictures to Pakistani flags when 14th of August arrives or Pakistan cricket team plays? We share and tweet videos about beautiful places in Pakistan, extraordinary individuals achievements by Pakistanis? even honestly majority of us believe that Pakistanis are the most intelligent people on earth only they don’t have the opportunity, our Army is the bravest in the world, we all have heard tales and stories about Pakistani troops SSGachieving amazing feats, we secretly believe our ISI is the strongest in the world and only playing with American CIA and Indian RAW for time being while really working for greater Pakistan???? We have huge coal resources, highest number of youth, amazing dams, damn good PAF and I don’t what other attributes of the country of unimaginable aspects...
But then why are we amongst the most untrustworthy and morally hideous nations of the world? Ask this to any PATRIOT Pakistani and they'll straight away answer you that we are against a multi-national level conspiracy of America, Israel, India and other countries who are afraid of Pakistan and don’t want to see this nation progressing, mentioning how all our politicians are their agents and working to destabilise this country. Completely shifting the burden of our failure from our shoulders to international conspirators and media and politicians and so and so. Isn't that true??
Do we realise why does this happen?? Because in reality we are so proud and vane of our national identity that we don't want to believe in this fact that we are totally dysfunctional as a nation. Every problem in our country is due to some foreign conspiracy to which our local politicians are part of.
What I have realised over the time is, that the true problem remains in the issue that majority of us do not understand what Pakistan is, sounds odd but sadly this is the reality if we study our behaviours without our national bias. Let me say this, we have misused the word of Pakistan for the physical structure of boundaries that we have today. In reality this land is not Pakistan but it is just a Part of Pakistan.
Pakistan in its true essence is a name of an Ideology, a vision, a belief that Quaid e Azam engulfed in a very simple sentence
'Pakistan Was created on the day when the first Person Turned to Islam in this Sub-Continent'
What was the dream of Allam Iqbal, the Hakeem ul Ummat about Pakistan?
Aik hon Muslim Harm ki Pasbani Kay liay
Neel Kay Sahil Say lay kar Tabkhaar e Kashghar
Neel Kay Sahil Say lay kar Tabkhaar e Kashghar
And what was the only slogan of the whole Pakistan Movement?
Pakistan ka Matlab kia, La Ilaha Illa Allah
Like a parrot all our country's youngsters can easily tell you that creation of Pakistan was based on the Two Nation Theory and will effectively describe you each and every aspect of this ideology, many of us proudly exclaim that we are one of the only two nations created on the basis of an ideology, but frankly now none of us understand what that theory meant in reality.
We have labelled Patriotism or Pakistaniyit on the love of these boundaries; we have sucked out the soul of that ideology and still love the dead body of this country. Pakistan was never or will never be the name of these physical boundaries that we live in today; Pakistan has always been a vision, a vision where a Nation Lives separately in any piece of land due to their difference of religion and beliefs from others. In this case the Islam was the sole reason why Pakistan was demanded and created, so it transpires to A piece of land where Muslims can live independently following the guidance of Islamic teachings.
The day we said Sab Sey Pehlay Pakistan was the day when ditched our own reason for existence. We have created Pakistan as an idol for us, engulfing an ideology in Physical piece of land and killed the objective for which Allah (swt) granted us this stretch of land. We sold other Muslims to protect this land, not Pakistan, because Pakistan as an ideology was the place where every Muslim can look forward to protect them from any other nation, that is the reason we were made for, but we engulfed ourselves in these physical bodies. We threw away the mantle of Pakistan with our own hands and did a treachery with our creator, which cannot go unpunished.
As I said now we love the dead body of what was once Pakistan, and this has always been the lesson of history narrated again and again in the Holy Book of Allah (swt) that those who do not fulfil their promises with Allah should not expect to be blessed in this world by any means. We did a promise to Allah that we require a separate place to live just to differentiate ourselves from non-believers, practise your teachings in its entirety, but we never did and even renounced our promise to Allah by selling other Muslims to another nation.
So now we should wait until Allah either finishes all of what is left of this land, or raise a new set of people who will be more loyal to their promises.
'Lo! ye are those who are called to spend in the way of Allah, yet among you there are some who hoard. And as for him who hoardeth, he hoardeth only from his soul. And Allah is the Rich, and ye are the poor. And if ye turn away He will exchange you for some other folk, and they will not be the likes of you.'
